An Interview with Author Dr. Shireen Magedin

Dr. Shireen Magedin

I was the lead author and enjoyed writing this book.
As a doctor myself, the journey in this book was fictitious, but it struck a chord with other medical students and doctors as well as me. The medical case described in the
book is genuine, but the patient’s name and surrounding stories have changed.

Here is an interview with Author Dr. Shireen Magedin

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My pen name is Shireen Magedin. I am a medical professional and a mother. I have recently started to write fiction, though I have written for medical journals and newspapers in the past.

How many hours a day do you write?

It depends on when I have time and when I feel like it.

How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

Two books.

How long on average does it take you to write a book?

That also depends on my writing speed and the editing process

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

There are many stories and books about doctors, but very few about medical students. So I thought I would write about the journey of a medical student from the time she enters college till her residency. While my characters are fictitious, the cases are real. They are those cases that have been handled by myself or my colleagues over the years.

How did you develop your plots? How do you select the names of your characters?

I can’t say, it just happened as I went along. 🙂

What is your favorite childhood book?

I didn’t have just one favorite book. I used to and still read voraciously. Anyone who gave me a book was my best friend forever, I had collected quite a library.

Have you read anything that made you think differently about fiction?

Not really. I feel that every book is unique

What are you currently working on?

I am writing a fictitious story about life in the ancient Indus Valley.

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

I keep away from reviews.

What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

I have a lot of friends who are authors, and they all encourage and help me a lot because I am a rookie as compared to them. But I have to mention Mary D. Brooks who encouraged me from the first word that I wrote till my book was finally published.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

I think the best thing about writing is that one can create a fantasy world where you can get lost in and ultimately can create something tangible.

Will you have a new book coming out soon?

My book was already released on the 25th January 2022

What is your preferred method to have readers get in touch with or follow you (i.e., website, personal blog, Facebook page, Goodreads, etc.) and link(s)?
