An Amazing Interview With Author Julie Canfield

Here is an interview with Author Julie Canfield

Julie Canfield, Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I graduated from college many years ago and started down the very winding, very knotted, and twisted path to becoming an author.

Julie Canfield, What do you do when you are not writing?

I love to read all types of genres, and I love being outdoors. I walk a lot, think a lot, and
observe the world with a cup of tea in my hand when I am not writing.

Julie Canfield, How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

One finished, but the unsold manuscript is with my editor now. Two half-written manuscripts
are waiting for me, and one new work which will be a sequel to the recently released story is
being plotted out.

What does literary success look like to you?

Fantastic question. The modest me would say, just being traditionally published is a success and it is. The practical me says I may be able to call myself a successful writer when I make enough to pay my bills and be self-supportive.

Julie Canfield, How many hours a day do you devote to writing?

Roughly 5-6 hours a day are spent on writing, editing, research (for story and markets), and answering emails.

Do you write a draft on paper or on a keyboard?

I write my rough drafts on my laptop. Then I print it out and edit it on paper. Changes are made in longhand first then it’s retyped in the computer. Occasionally, I will begin a rough draft on paper. This happens when I am hit by a good idea that needs to be explored right then.

Julie Canfield, What authors do you like to read?

My Julie Julie Canfield Canfield favorite authors are Maeve Binchy, Shel Silverstein, Daphne Du Maurier, Anne Perry Morgan Llewellyn, Ruth Rendell, Martha Grimes, John Jakes, Sharon Kay Penman, Philippa Gregory, and P.D.James. All of their works have influenced my writing voice.

What’s more important, characters or plot?

I Julie Canfield think a good story is more plot-driven but a series is more character driven.

Tell us about your books

The first book, released in August 2017, is a detective mystery that will become a series. Its main character is a middle-aged detective who suspects the department heads would like him to retire so that stick a rookie with him and his longtime partner. He’s assigned to a very low-level priority case no one cares if it’s solved or not. What happens is the case blossoms into a more significant crime instead.

The manuscript in the editor’s hands which I hope to sell soon is a woman’s fiction about a woman who sees her marriage in a way different from her husband. A night of severe weather causes her house of cards to fall and she must learn what the word forgive means.

If you didn’t write what would your ideal career be?

Definitely something creative, probably an interior decorator or psychoanalyst.

Do you have a day job as well?

Currently, I am unemployed, but I am seeking work.

What is your favorite childhood book?

I loved the Little House series, but my four favorites are still: Mr. Willowby’s Christmas tree, Attic in the Wind, Mandy, and Alice in Wonderland.

Do you meet your readers at book signings, conventions, or similar events?

Yes, and enjoy that very much. I pick their brains on what could have improved the work.

How did you come up with the title?

It’s a play on the theme running through the book that things are never what they seem on the surface.

What project are you working on now?

Getting the woman’s lit piece in shape to sell and plotting the sequel to What Hides Beneath.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

Check out my new website and leave me comments, or ask me a question. I love getting to know the people who have read and like my work.

What would you say about our website prachesta.com?

I Julie Canfield am impressed by the topics offered in Prachesta It’s a broad variety sure to appeal to many people.
