An Interview with author Karina Bartow

Karina Bartow grew up in northern Ohio and still lives there. Even though she was born with cerebral palsy, she never allowed her disability to define her. Rather, she uses her experience to bring physically restricted characters to life, but how determined they are to stay out of the way of life they want. Her debut novel "Husband in Hiding" was published in 2015, followed by Forgetting My Way Back to You in 2018 and Brother of Interest in 2022. She may only be able to type with one hand, but she writes with all her heart. Here is an interview with author Karina Bartow. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? I grew up and still live in the northern United States.  Though born with Cerebral Palsy, I’ve never allowed my disability to define me.  Rather, I’ve used my experiences to breathe life into characters who have physical limitations, but like me, are determined not to let them stand in the way of the life they want.  I've been published three times, with my debut novel, Husband in Hiding released in 2015, Forgetting My Way Back to You in 2018, and Brother of Interest in 2022.  I may only be able to type with one hand, but I write with my whole heart! How many hours a day do you write? At least three How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have? Three How long on average does it take you to write a book? A year or so. Where did you get the idea for your recent book? Brother of Interest is a sequel to Husband in Hiding, so I wanted to explore an aspect of Minka's, the main character, a life that didn’t get covered in the first book. After some contemplation, I realized I didn’t touch much on her relationship with her brother. A childhood trauma that he suffered inspired her to be a police officer, but we never see them together in Husband in Hiding. Brother of Interest explains why. What is your favorite childhood book? Any of the Raggedy Ann & Andy collection. What are you currently working on? My next release that comes out later this year, as well as the follow-up to Brother of Interest. What's your advice for aspiring writers? Never give up. View every rejection letter as one step closer to an acceptance. What's the best thing about being a writer? Being able to create the world you'd like to live in. Will you have a new book coming out soon? Yes, Wrong Line, Right Connection, a historical romance, will be released sometime this year.
