Review: The Girl with No Sol by Karen Vega

Karen VegaReview

Kalamiti Sol, a 15-year-old member of The Crew, a gang of young criminals who live on the streets of Chicago, has a tough life. Her world is turned upside down, however, when she is sentenced to a juvenile detention center for auto theft. Kalamiti’s grandmother, Nonna, picks her up from juvie on her sixteenth birthday and drives her to her house in San Jose, California. It wasn’t long before Kalamiti was enrolled in high school, where she excelled at playing the piano. It’s hard to believe the feelings she feels for Lucas when he returns to her life after a long absence. Karen Vega’s novel, The Girl Without a Sun, is a slice-of-life novel for young adult.
