Love Hard is a romantic comedy film directed by Hernán Jiménez and written by Danny Mackey and Rebecca Ewing which was released in 2021.
Love Hard uses the concept of catfishing and mixes it into a romantic comedy film on Netflix, but in a terrible way.
I watched this film with an open mind, as I am aware of the negative consequences of catfishing. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, just for the fact that it’s unique in what it contains.
What I really liked about the film was the comedic value of Jimmy, who was quite stereotypical but at the same time funny in his own behavior. For me, the love hard movie plot is pretty refreshing and cheeky, as I like other genres, but it was extremely pleasant to follow through as it made me laugh out loud several times, and genuinely care about the characters even during their darkest moments, like most romantic comedies where the movies are flat and predictable.
The way the characters act is endearing, amusing, and vibrant. While this may not be a film for everyone, particularly those who identify with the two themes highlighted above. It is, nevertheless, an enjoyable and somewhat amusing film that should be easy to sit through. It utilizes a clever and fascinating story with charming characters that creates a fun time as you watch.
This film empowers not only Asian/American male adolescent males, but also any male adolescent males who struggle with body and stereotypical images in dating life. It is a strong demonstration of Jimmy’s genuine personality being embraced by Nina Dobrev (as Natalie).
I’m not sure how to better describe the film – my verdict is merely based on my enjoyment of it. If you have seen it, I would also love to know your opinion.
