Interview With Author Katherine Dempster

Here is an interview with author Katherine Dempster

Katherine Dempster, Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m Katherine Dempster the author of The Patrons, a paranormal New Adult book series, that currently has the first two of three books published with Wild Dreams Publishing. I’m a Canadian with a severe book addiction and a passion for travel.

Katherine Dempster, How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

I’m Katherine Dempster currently finishing a novella that goes alongside The Patrons and The Patrons: Bloodlines that will tell the story from the point of view of the protagonist’s best friend, and I’m working on a supernatural novel titled Into the Lake.

How do you develop your plots and characters?

The Katherine Dempster plots develop over time in my head. Sometimes it will be the ending that comes to me first, and I’ll work backward, and sometimes a general idea of the situation or world that the characters live in will start to form. Characters for the most part tend to introduce themselves to me as I go. They can really throw a wrench into my plots at times!

Katherine Dempster What’s more important: characters or plot?

To me they go hand in hand to make a story that you can immerse yourself in, but if I were to have to pick one I suppose it would be characters. If you don’t care about them, their adventures and stories have a hard time taking root and sticking it out with them as a reader.

Are there certain characters you would like to go back to, or is there a theme or idea you’d love to work with?

Phoebe Blake, the best friend of Abby Whitmore in The Patrons, is the protagonist in the novella that I’m working on and I’m really enjoying seeing that world through her eyes. She’s more fun-loving than Abby and it’s been a blast to work on.

Katherine Dempster, How do you market your work? What avenues have you found to work best for your genre?

Being published with an Indie publisher, social media is a godsend. Wild Dreams is great with keeping on top of promoting their authors via Facebook, Twitter, and the like, and being able to add to the marketing on our own, on our own social media accounts really helps to put it out there.

There are so many great sites that are solely for promoting books and indie authors, and we’re always so thankful for the time and effort those people put in.

Will you have a new book coming out soon?

Next out will most likely be Phoebe Blake: Boy Crazed Banshee, and hopefully closely followed by Into the Lake. Once I’m able to move on from those I have a new series that I’m working on titled The Corpse Flower Chronicles about a young lady named Nora and the unusual life she’s born into.

What is your preferred method to have readers get in touch with or follow you (i.e., website, personal blog, Facebook page, Goodreads, etc.) and link(s)?

Facebook is the best way to get in touch, as well as Goodreads – although I’ve been horrible at updating my Goodreads.

What do you want to say about our website?

I’m really enjoying the layout. Very easy to navigate through the content, and the articles have been quite varied and enjoyable!
