Jamell Crouthers Can You Tell Us A little Bit About Yourself?
Jamell Crouthers, I was born and raised in New York City, lived in the inner city, and then moved to the suburbs when I was 14. I currently reside in Phoenix, Arizona. I’m an author, writer, poet, blogger, and podcaster and I’ve published 36 books my goal is to publish 60 books by the end of 2024.
How Many Hours A Day Do You Write?
Lately, I’ve been writing 2-3 hours a day since I have a little more time to dedicate myself to writing and creating. It’s been fun and I love the journey of building a book from start to finish.
How Many Unpublished And Half-Finished Books Do You Have?
Jamell Crouthers, currently I have nine unpublished books, eight of those will be published this year. I don’t have any half-finished books but I’m currently working on one for next year.
How Long On Average Does It Take You To Write A Book?
Jamell Crouthers, I would say 3-4 weeks depending on my mental focus and what I have going on in my life. Sometimes I have to focus on other projects (writing blogs, recording podcasts, recording audiobooks).
Where Did You Get The Idea For Your Recent Book?
Jamell Crouthers focus is writing on social issues and I’m focusing on women’s social issues for the first half of this year with my book publishing. The focus on women’s mental health is imperative and needs to be a focus of the conversation.
Jamell Crouthers, How Did You Develop Your Plots?
A lot of it is watching the world, being observant, having conversations with people, and watching certain things on television for content. It’s a myriad of things that contribute to writing the plots that I do. Also, if there isn’t a book that focuses on a certain social issue, I feel it’s my moral responsibility to write a story about it and research it before I write the book.
Jamell Crouthers How Do You Select The Names Of Your Characters?
Oh, it’s just randomly thinking of names off of the top of my head and making sure it fits into my story. I’ve used my friends’ names, family members, and coworkers so they just come to me and I hope I don’t repeat names.
If You Didn’t Write, What Would You Do For Work?
I’d be doing something in sports most likely, it’s what I did mostly in my 20s into my early 30s and I enjoyed it a lot.
How Did You Get Inspired To Write Your Recent Book?
There are so many social issues going on in the world today and I feel it’s important to shine a light on all of them. I love creating stories that allow people to think and understand life from a different perspective.
What Is Your Favorite Childhood Book?
Have You Read Anything That Made You Think Differently About Fiction?
At the moment, I would say no. I mostly read non-fictional biographies and black history, which has interested me the most these days.
What Are You Currently Working On?
I’m working on a major 12-book series for next year that focuses on life in a tough neighborhood for young black and Latino men and women. I’m working on something really special for next year and I’ll just say that you’ll get immersed in it since there will be a lot of characters involved in this series.
Do You Read Your Book Reviews? How Do You Deal With Bad Or Good Ones?
I used to and I got caught up in them too much. These days I don’t really read my book reviews, I focus on the work I have to do daily.
Jamell Crouthers, What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Write what you know and love, don’t do what’s trending currently. The market constantly changes and there’s room for you in whatever subject you choose to write in. Be consistent and disciplined when it comes to your writing and let things come to you, don’t force it. You can’t get writer’s block if you plan your content ahead of time.
What Was The Best Money You Ever Spent As A Writer?
Buying this Google Chromebook I’m using to answer these questions lol. I would say that this laptop has every single book I’ve written and it’s allowed me to create some amazing content. I’ve had this Chromebook longer than any Microsoft laptop I’ve owned in my life.
What’s The Best Thing About Being A Writer?
The best thing I’d say is being able to create and write something that will make people’s minds shift or think. It’s the process, the grind, the journey and constantly finding new things to write about. It’s also being able to stand out from the crowd and knowing that what you’re creating can change the landscape of the world.
Will You Have A New Book Coming Out Soon?
I just released “
A Woman’s Worth Part 4” on April 1st. It’s a six-book series that focuses on women’s social issues. Parts 5 and 6 will be released on May and June 1st and then the rest of the year will be “A Man’s Plight” series that will be six books also focusing on men’s social issues in today’s society.
